What sound do you love?
Happy New Year! This week's journal prompt is: What sound do you love? If you feel inclined, you can add your answer via the comments section. Love you all.
So so many. Of all the senses, I am most grateful for that of hearing. Sound is an amazing gift that can dramatically influence our mood, warn us, and teach us. I love laughter first and music second. I love laughter in nearly all forms - but I especially love belly laughs like Sam's. It makes my heart happy, keeps me laughing, and makes me forget my worries. Laughter can dissipate tension, brighten our day, and leave us feeling grateful. Laughter is the most magical sound. I also love music and how it can mirror, enhance, and alter my mood.
I am editing my own answer because like Chelsey, I also love the sound of rain and thunderstorms. I also really love the sound of night when it is snowing, or just after it's snowed. It's a different kind of quiet and it's so peaceful and mysterious and magical. And like Ryan, I also love the sound of silence. I particularly love sitting on my patio and enjoying the peace and quiet with the occasional bird added in.
It works! This is a good prompt, Annie! I agree with yours. I probably don’t have 1 favorite sound but to add a different one - rainstorms! And thanks to the Alexa, we can hear them INSIDE our house 24/7 🤪🤣
And to add to the music idea, if you’re not listening to T Swift / midnights album on repeat, is it even worth it? 🥰
Oh sorry, figuring it out- I didn’t mean to post that as anonymous. I just realized I had to publish my name with the comment. Told you, dumber everyday 🙈
The three sounds that came immediately to mind are: - Music. I love to have music playing in the house, especially when we are having fun or playing cards. From my earliest days I can remember Mom and Dad playing Oak Ridge Boys (“American Made”), Neil Diamond (“Coming to America”) and Eagles (“Take it Easy”) records. I love having the music on on Sunday mornings and Saturday nights. - The sound of kids – now teenagers – laughing in the house. One of my favorite things is having a house full of loud, crazy teenagers. Having my kids and their friends here at home is the best. It makes me feel like I have done something right if the kids feel comfortable being here and being crazy here. I want my kids near me – I’d rather have them here than anywhere else. - The sound of an early morning silence. When I was younger and had a paper route I loved the absolute stillness of an early morning. Today, I’m not up quite so early, but I do take the dogs out just before dawn every morning. I love an unusually warm spring or fall morning when the air feels so fresh and the silence feels reverent, broken only by the sound of geese flying or a song bird waking. Just me and the dogs walking the park, playing fetch.
- I love the white noise sound of a fan. I fall asleep to it every night because it creates peace and quiet by drowning out all other noise. - When I'm not trying to sleep, I love the sound of a happy baby's voice babbling. - When I want to laugh, there's just nothing that compares to the sound of a fart. I laugh so hard, I cry.
Spencer: I would have to say some of my favorite sounds come from music. I'm remembering a time my senior year in high school I had a choir concert at the cathedral of the rockies. After the choir performances were over, I snuck back into the concert hall and looked around and was amazed at the acoustics. I then began singing one song and my voice filled the whole room and I wasn't even trying to sing that loud. Another memory I had was singing as a missionary in a missionary choir for a stake conference. The Stake held a special meeting the morning of stake conference right before the general session with those interested in learning about our church. Our missionary choir was also rehersing that morning, but in the chapel of the church. The song we were to sing as a choir was hymn #81 "Press Forward, Saints". The conductor stopped us during our rehearsal that morning and said, "when you get to the 3rd verse where it says... "Thus Saith our God: Ye have eternal life!" Pray for those who are seeking the gospel of Jesus Christ that they can have a feeling/glimpse of what Eternal Life would be like. In that Stake Conference when I sang that hymn and prayed for those listening to have that experience, I felt an overwhelming power of the spirit telling me that God had noticed my efforts. The spirit continued to be strong for the remainder of that meeting to which I am forever grateful for. I love in D&C 25:12 Where it said, "For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads." There have been many times I have sung a hymn and have received an answer to my prayers which I am also grateful for. So that is why I love music and why it's some of my favorite sounds.
I think I love all the sounds that have been mentioned-the sound of babies laughing, babbling, the sound of children laughing, the crazy loud noise our family makes when we are together teasing and laughing. I also love music-all kinds. Sunday hymns, Christmas music, soft rock and happy country music. I am thankful for the gift of hearing!
