Who is Someone You Don't Know But See on a Consistent Basis that is Always Kind?
This week's question is: Who is someone you don't know but see on a consistent basis that is always kind(i.e. someone at the store, on your regular walk, etc.)?
I can think of two people. There's the guy who works the cash register at my favorite taco place down the street. He's always got a big smile. I have no idea what his name is, but half the reason I go in there is just to talk to my friend.
The other person is a lady at work (Scentsy). No idea what her name is, but she has to be the friendliest person on earth. She works in the warehouse ,and I was introduced to her once at a Scentsy convention in SLC. She has a big smile and a wave every time I see her. Not long ago I saw her in the temple, and that has just caused her to treat me as even more familiar. I usually just see her in the Scenty cafeteria, and it's a little awkward, to be honest - as I said, I don't even know her name. But the awkwardness and her excessive cheer does make me a smile. No one else in my life acts so enthusiastic to see me - except maybe my dogs. She must not know I'm a lawyer.
I do have a few friends who are super gregarious - I must gravitate toward pepole like that. Matt Gordon, Robbie Summers, Mike Pietz. My girls know that these guys have been some of my closest friends. Guys who always greet you with a ton of enthusiasm and have super positive energy.
Oh man, Annie! This is a hard one for me! Honestly, I try really hard to get to know anyone that I regularly come in contact with. I truly can’t think of anyone that I see regularly that I’m not on a first name basis with. …So I don’t think this prompt is applicable to me! That’s weird, huh??
I do think it is interesting, though, to compare cultures in the different places we’ve lived. I think Texas is by far the friendliest place we’ve lived. Can’t wait to get back!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻…someday!
I go to the north Meridian Winco every Thursday and have two great friends there. Nicolay is the produce manager. He always points out the sales to me. It's really helpful because I usually only shop my list, but he'll say, "Did you see? Pineapples for 99 cents. Limit 4. We have to limit them, otherwise the restaurants will come and wipe us clean out because we can get them cheaper than they can." He also shows me pictures on his phone of his wife and kids. "I have 4 kids, two boys, two girls, just like you" he says. He is so friendly. Paulo is the bulk foods manager. I used to always see him at the Fairvew Winco when we lived on Milwaukee, so I've known him for about 8 years now. He is always super positive, upbeat, and friendly. Many times we have stopped to visit, and he has told me about some miracle God has performed in his life.
I know Nicolay and Paulo's names because they wear name tags, but I have never told them my name, and of course, they have never asked. Every time I see them, I wonder if I should say, "by the way, my name is Allyson". Now that I'm writing this, I think I will. It's silly not to!
I often see people whose names I can't remember but with whom I have shared sacred experiences in the temple--I love seeing them & it's great when they light up when they see me. There are wonderful connections for me in the temple and some people are just extra special to me.
There is a lady at the Meridian Winco who manages the self checkout at night time who is genuine and has a happy disposition. I agree with Chelsey though that the majority of people I see regularly I try and get to know there name and get to know them. I think we are all that way though.

I bet the taco guy looks forward to you coming, too. How fun!!
